As most of you probably already know, we had a major tragedy happen at our home on Thursday morning. Two of our boys fell into an old well on our property that we never knew was there and wasn’t ever closed up properly. James, age 4, died from the fall. Tiga, age 5, also fell but by the grace of God, he didn’t die from the fall. The well was around 40 feet deep and was a hard fall for a grown man, let alone a small boy. Mike and Abraham were in the city when all this happened taking care of some legal paperwork so Andrea and Mimit were trying to get the boys out. The neighbors came when they heard the children crying and we probably had 40 people come to help. Two men went down the well and through a bucket system, they were able to pull the boys out. Tiga came out first and had a big open wound on his head. A neighbor rushed him to a nearby hospital. James was pulled out and had died from the fall. We prayed over him and know that he is with the Lord now. The Haitian police (not the UN) came to the house and five officers escorted Andrea back into the house to find out what happened. The Lord gave us some favor because the officers were very nice and helpful, plus one of them spoke English. (Andrea was still without a translator at this point) Mike arrived shortly after they arrived, and the officer reassured us that this was not our fault. If anyone was to blame, it was the owner of the house for not letting us know the well was even there and for not closing it off properly as he should have before we moved in. The judge came and signed James’ death certificate. He also agreed that we were not at fault. The two men who climbed down the well were demanding money for their “act of kindness” so we had to pay them almost $150 US to keep them happy. They said, “We saved a life, what’s that life worth?” We met with James’ family on Friday and we will be responsible for paying for the funeral and burial. The estimate is between $1,500-$2,000. James also has a brother and two sisters who also live with us. They are all still stunned from the whole incident. We are very grateful for Tiga’s life. The Lord has spared him and we know He has a great purpose for Tiga. He had surgery Friday morning for abdominal bleeding but came through strong. He is still in the hospital, but we met with the doctor again this morning, and he should be coming home this week. The doctor said the whole hospital knows and loves Tiga and they don’t want him to leave. He said he asked Tiga how he was still alive and Tiga said, “I’m not dying!” What a blessing he is! Please continue to pray for our home and the kids. The Lord is still in control of this whole situation and our trust is in Him. If you would like to help us with the cost of the funeral, please visit our website www.ReachHaiti.com and just click on a one time donation. We will receive it immediately down here.

Also, we had our 2nd service at our church meeting in our house yesterday and had 26 people attend. We had a wonderful service. Mike had decided to just do story telling and question/answer service and it was so needed. We have a lot of new Christians in our church. Many didn’t know who Abraham was. The Lord has blessed us with some young men who live in the community that are a big help to us. They both got saved during last Sunday’s service and are so hungry for more of the Lord. We will be continuing to do door-to-door evangelism this week and will be starting our Bible College for training leaders on Thursday nights at our house.
Even through all the pain and chaos of the last few days, we have felt the Lord’s peace and He has comforted us. We have started praying every night with the kids and they are beginning to understand to cry out to the Lord for help and when they are afraid. Please keep us in your prayers. We will update more soon. We love you all and greatly appreciate each one of you! God bless!

Love, Mike and Andrea
