The doors were opened to us again in the prison in Mirebalais where we visited last week to discover the cholera epidemic had spread inside its walls. We weren’t sure if we would be allowed back into the prison due to the outbreak, but God granted us favor again and the guards opened the doors for the Gospel to be shared to all the prisoners inside. There are still around 50 prisoners who are under tents in the courtyard battling the cholera while the other 270 prisoners are still locked tightly inside their small cells. However, faced with this epidemic, they were all open to hearing the Gospel of Jesus. Mike and the team from RIO Restoration along with ReachHaiti’s Pastor Roman and Pastor Jacques headed back into the prisons and shared the Gospel message. After Mirebalais, the team continued ministering to prisons north of Port au Prince over the next two days to the prisons in Hinche and St. Marc (the central outbreak of the cholera epidemic). Even in the midst of the cholera epidemic, the doors were opened for the Gospel to be shared. The team also distributed almost 1,000 bars of antibacterial soap along with Bible study booklets and Bibles to the prisoners and the guards. In just two days, over 375 prisoners repented and gave their lives to Christ! When they left the prisons, the team were also able to make contact to several family members who didn’t know their relatives were in prison at the time. Praise the Lord for continuing to open doors and allowing us to share the Gospel even in the midst of crisis.

The RIO Restoration Team also spent the first 3 days of their week in Forte de Pin, the community in the clouds high on the mountains. They did leadership training and pastoral conferences each day and had services and showed the Jesus Film the final night. The team saw around 125 people who repented and received Christ up on the mountain in those 3 days. ReachHaiti currently has around 20 churches scattered on the mountain who are wanting to affiliate with ReachHaiti Ministries and partner with us long-term. We are in prayer and planning with each of these churches to see what the Lord’s will is for us. Discipleship and training are both great needs to the churches in the mountains so please continue to pray that we may establish much needed Bible training schools for these existing churches. Our goal is to mobilize and train the existing churches to reach into the areas and villages throughout the mountains who don’t yet have the Gospel established.
While the RIO Restoration team was busy in the mountains and the prisons, Andrea and Kim were busy running a team mostly from New York doing medical clinics. In just 6 days, over 350 people were treated in medical clinics in Gidon and at other orphanages. Dr. Rich from New York who was with us right after the earthquake came back again with some other people to help serve the Haitians. We also had construction going on the land in Gidon all week to build the security wall around the compound. Bob, another team member from New York, finished wiring all the new houses for electricity as well as fixing some electrical problems around our house. Thanks team for sacrificing your time and serving the Haitians this week!
So far, the cholera outbreak in Haiti hasn’t reached our hometown, Croix des Bouquets, However, the Lord has allowed us to be involved both medically and more importantly, by sharing the Gospel to hundreds of people in the midst of this epidemic. Thanks so much for all the prayers and support to help us keep reaching Haiti! A special thanks to RIO Restoration Church in Maryville, Tennessee and to Dr. Rich and his team from New York who all came and served alongside us last week to expand the Gospel all over Haiti! Keep praying for this nation and for God to continue to open doors for us to take the Gospel where others aren’t going!
