Sunday morning, Mike, Michele, Wesley, Pastor Roman, and myself left bright and early for Petite Goave, a beautiful town in the mountains! We have a church there led by Pastor Roman. In February, we had a team down who repaired the roof on this church from earthquake damage. We are very excited to see the hunger and growth taking place up there. The journey just to get to the church is very difficult. We left our house about 6:00am in the mourning and drove a few hours through the city and down the coast. Once we got to Petite Goave, we then had to ride motorcycles up the mountain to get to the church. We hired a mule and some extra people to help carry our supplies. The ride up there is very beautiful but also a little scary. The “road” is very rocky and vertical most of the way. Our drivers were very good though and drive this path everyday. Once we reached the top of the mountain, we were literally in the clouds but the sight is indescribable. You can see the port and the ocean from the top. We then hiked down a couple hundred yards to the church. People were already there, ready and waiting to hear the Word of God.

We started the conference that morning and spent the next two nights there. We set up tents on a cliff that overlooked the ocean. What a beautiful sunrise every morning! The theme for the conference was “Be Real,” and we focused our teachings on being real with God and living in freedom. Over the next three days, Mike taught several sessions on many topics like salvation, hard-heartedness, bondages, a new life in Christ, giving, church history, the 5-Fold-Ministry, and many more. Michelle taught a session on forgiveness and inner healing. I taught the final session on setting goals and having a vision for your life. We also had a 2-hour question/answer session which seemed very helpful and needed for most of the people. Each night, we did a revival service to end the day.

Our time there was very fruitful. We had a great turnout each day for the conference and many more at night when people weren’t working in the fields. We also fed around 350 meals while we were there to the people who came. We had 2 people repent and receive salvation, including the man who we had rented a sound system from who didn’t even attend the church. We saw the Lord grow in these people and are excited to see the growth and fruit that comes from this conference!

We are very excited to have some new helpers down from the states. Michele is a construction analyst from Texas who has worked in disaster relief for many years. She will be a big asset to our team in helping us coordinate building projects and gather supplies to rebuild our property. She will be here for a month and has plans to come back again often. Sarah is a good friend from Tennessee. She will be staying 3 months with us and will be helping us get structure back into our home and daily lives. She is also going to help us work with the staff to maintain a spirit of excellence in our home. We are very grateful to have them both here.

If you would like to partner with us to continue the work in Haiti each month, please visit our website www.ReachHaiti.com.

Well, due to the lack of communication we had following the earthquake, we did not get to thank a new friend who came and spent a week with us, Richard Ruppenstein, PA or Doctor Rich. Although he was a yankee from New York (I still got the last laugh Rich!), he quickly became a great friend and was a huge blessing to Haiti and specifically, our community. He spent his time walking the streets with Wesley and visiting some makeshift hospitals in our area. He went to several places where there was no treatment available to earthquake victims. Rich treated well over 200 patients and saved a lot lives! He wrote an article about his experiences and his week with us in Haiti that I wanted to share with all of you. Please read take the time to read it. We also want to thank Rich for taking the time to come stay with us and help Haiti! God bless you, Rich, and we are very grateful!

How can it be put into words? My vocabulary is not enough to describe what I have seen in the last few weeks. Just today, there was a man walking down the street so angry he was throwing blocks into the street. My heart went out to him. What was going through his mind? His life was so hard to begin with. Now, maybe he has lost his family, his home, and his hope for help. So many in need, so many hungry, so many hopeless, unless we can reach them. The Red Cross is helping 10′s of thousands as is World Vision and many other large agencies, but what about the family down the street from us, up the street from us, and accross the street? How can we help them? We must give them hope, and now, hope comes in the form of food, shelter, water and the GOSPEL OF HOPE. If I could not see this tragedy through the eye’s of Jesus, I would leave now. But in Jesus, there is always hope: hope for a new beginning and future. I have witnessed many coming to Jesus, thanking Him for sparing their lives and revealing they have a purpose in the Lord.

There is a man named Roland who lived just down the street from us. He is a nice man, but he really just tolerated the orphanage being on his street. He was religious but did not know Jesus as Savior. Since the quake, this man and his large family of more than 10 people have all come to have their sins forgiven through Christ. Now, when I see him, he is filled with joy and gives hugs. He has not missed a service since his conversion to Jesus. His heart is soft now. What is amazing is that before, he lived in a big house with things that most Haitians have never had, but he was very unhappy. Now, he lives in a makeshift tent in a field with his family but is filled and overflowing with the love of Christ.

I am asking you to help us help the Haitians. Donate now so we can help those who can’t make it to the Red Cross or World Vision. The people on our street need help, and we are their voice to you. Visit us at www.reachhaiti.com and donate now. May the Lord Bless you and Keep you.

Pray for us to be strengthened with the Holy Spirit to reach out and show His love more than ever.

Well, after 26 long and exhausting hours, Andrea finally made it back to Tennessee on Saturday. I had to take a military flight, a bus ride, a comercial flight, and finally a rental car, but I am grateful I made it! While I am here in Tennessee, I will be speaking at churches or groups who want to hear about Haiti, the quake, and help us raise funds to rebuild. If you want me to come and speak, please email me ASAP at ReachHaiti@gmail.com or call me at (865) 230-8750. I am also coordinating teams who want to come down and help us rebuild geinning in mid-February. If you or anyone you know if interested in coming down, please email us ASAP at ReachHaiti@gmail.com. Mike and the kids are doing well. We also have two friends from West Tennessee, Diane and Jessica, who are helping us with the kids right now. We tried to get Marilyn a medical visa before I left but were unsuccessful. We are still trying though so please be praying she can come back soon! We received some great news from a few doctors at Vanderbilt Hospital who want to treat her as soon as she gets here. We know God can work a way for her to get here quickly! Continue to pray for Marilyn as she is still fighting for her life.

This is the property we are purchasing.

We have found another piece of property that we are in the process of purchasing that is still located in the mountains. The other piece didn’t work out legally right now but God has sent us a new piece which we are very happy with. Mike is meeting tomorrow with the property owner and the notary, and we will hopefully have everything finished by this week. The price will be around $10,000 US but it is much bigger. We are also working on the plans for phase 1 of our building. The estimate is around $25,000. If you would like to donate towards either, please make a one-time donation to the right of this page. We were able to rent another house last week which is large enough for us, the kids, and our teams who come down.

Please continue to pray for us and for Haiti. Although this has been a terrible tragedy, we are also starting to see God move in miraculous ways! We have had great outpourings in church and in prayer. We have also heard several powerful stories from our friends who survived the quake by God’s grace. Although we are having to start over, the Lord has been providing all we need. We also want to thank all of you for all the support and prayers. God bless you all!

Since January 2009, Mike and I have been in Haiti twice. We want everyone to watch and pray as the harvest continues to grow! We want to keep you all posted on what the Lord is doing and what he has allowed us to do through Him! So far, this is the harvest that has been birthed. We are expecting these seeds to grow and continue to advance the Kingdom! We are not consumed by typical numbers, but we are consumed with souls! We don’t like to just see people profess salvation but also to plug them into a local church where they can be discipled, trained, and equipped to help advance the Gospel! These are the numbers so far that we have witnessed in Haiti, but we know that this is only the beginning! Continue to pray for these souls and their growth and protection as they are part of God’s Kingdom too!

Hey everyone! We have been very blessed to have trustworthy contacts in Haiti, both American and Haitian. We work with a young couple who are from the states and live next door to the orphanage we currently work with in the village of Despinos, April and Joel Hess. April is an RN and runs a clinic close to her house. Her and Joel also have a school and a church on the property. They have lived full-time in Haiti for a few years now and are a huge blessing to us for their encouragement, positive attitudes, and true servants’ hearts. We received an email from April yesterday that I want to share with everyone about a great prayer request in Despinos. Yeman is a woman who lives in Despinos that is HIV positive. She received salvation through Christ and was believing the Lord for her healing.

“This has been very hard on us. We have invested many hours in Yeman, going to the doctor treating her, feeding her, encouraging and loving her. She had became very dear to us. In the last three months, Yeman’s faith and relationship with Christ had really flourished. She was so excited to be studying the Bible and learning. She would wake up at 4 am to listen to Christian radio and try to learn the Psalms. She was very faithful to church and very open about her new found walk with Christ. As we know, people can be very cruel and insensitive. She was being persecuted by many people outside her door at night with machete’s etc.. The doctor had recently told her that even with all the treatment, she would never be healed. In the last few weeks, she started to act strange, forget things, and began to wonder off for days, and come home not knowing where she went or what she had done. I was visiting her everyday, praying with her, trying to encourage her, but it seemed the Aids had began to cloud her ability to think clearly, and satan was doing his best to make her fall. One minute she was clear, the next she was not. Saturday night, her mother came knocking at our door at 10 to tell us she had burnt herself. Honestly, I thought it was something small. I rushed to the clinic, to get gloves, protective wear etc.. Nothing prepared me for how bad her situation was. She had burnt her entire body, and her body was still smoking. She had locked her door, and poured gas on her head and lit a match.. Her sister crashed the door in to get to her, but it was too late.

She had second and third degree burns on her entire body. You could not recognize her face. She knew who I was, and kept telling me, “Make it stop burning,” and “I was sleeping, and I didnt know what I did..” We ( my visiting helpers and Jesse) cleaned her and dressed her the best we could there, and then transported her to the clinic. All night I did all I knew to do to help her survive. She was in too much pain to sit still and would not keep an IV in. She kept asking for Berta to sing.. Around 2 AM she lost control over her mind.. Honestly I cannot finish explaining, it was really to much for me.. She passed away, at 7 am, after many hours of excruciating pain. Joel was reading Psalms to her as she took her last breath. I have never experienced this much pain with a patient, let alone a friend.”

April and Joel had to handle the funeral arrangements as well since Yeman’s family didn’t have the money to take care of it. Sadly, this can be the harsh side of proclaiming Jesus as Savior to people who just don’t understand. Please pray for April, Joel, Yeman’s family, and the entire village of Despinos that God will restore everything the enemy has stolen and bring His glory through this dark and sad situation. Thanks and God bless!

Have you ever wanted to be a missionary? Do you love short-term trips but wonder what life would be like to live overseas full-time as a missionary? We are very excited to announce the opening of our new Missionary Training School in February 2010! In just 9 short months, you can not only experience missionary life at its best, but also achieve an accredited Associate’s Degree!

Our school is not just classroom education but personal, real-life experience to teach you about the good and the bad of full-time missions! You will be given the opportunity to see all sides of our ministry in Haiti including remote-area outreach, village evangelism, church planting, orphanage work, pastoral training, and going where the Gospel is unheard! Along with the experience, you will be taught true life on the mission field through video and instructor-led teachings and lots of reading focused on the Bible and mission biographies. We also put on a strong emphasis on you learning the Haitian culture and language, Creole. Our goal is to not just fill you with facts but to allow you to be taught through real-life experience and how to be led by the Holy Spirit through all situations!

If you can’t commit to the full 9 months, we are also offering shorter internships which will give you the same experience in a shorter amount of time and without the degree. You can come for one month to six months and still get the feel for life overseas!

If you are interested or want more information, please visit our Missionary Training School page or email us at reachhaiti@gmail.com. We look forward to hearing from you! God bless you!
