Last week was a very busy and powerful week! We hosted a team from our home church, RIO Central, from Maryville, Tennessee. The team of 10 from RIO Central ministered in the 5 prisons, spent a day in the mountains of Foret de Pins, hosted 2 men’s training conferences, showed the Jesus Film, and blessed all the ReachHaiti kids with presents! Their week was very fruitful, and they had over 650 responses to receive the Lord in the prisons! The men’s training conferences were also a huge blessing. They traveled many miles to get to all these prisons including trips to the central plateau, deep in the mountains, across Port au Prince, and all the way to the southern coast of Jacmel. We want to say thank you to the team for their hard work, perseverance, and for being such a blessing to us and to Haiti!

We would like to say thanks to our newest full-time missionary, Jeff Martin. Jeff has been a great blessing to Mike and all the work in Haiti since he joined us in September. We are grateful to have him working with us and look forward to what all the Lord uses him for in Haiti!

We want to thank all of you for your continued support and prayers! We will be taking a personal vacation beginning this Saturday and will be out of town for a week. We will respond to any emails or phone calls once we return. God bless you!

October has been another busy and fruitful month for ReachHaiti Ministries! We also had a personal loss this month with Andrea’s Papaw. The team from our home church, RIO, arrived in Haiti today so please be in prayer for their week. They will be holding leadership training conferences, spending time with the kids, taking a trip to the mountains, holding outreaches with the Jesus Film, and ministering in the prisons including the largest prison in Haiti located in downtown Port au Prince.

Two weeks ago, Andrea’s Papaw Taz went home to be with the Lord. He lived an amazing 90 years and had a very full life! He was a blessing to so many people and impacted so many lives. Andrea’s family has setup the Taz Puckett Memorial Fund in memory of her Papaw and his life to be used to help the ministries of ReachHaiti. New Base

We have many upcoming news to share with all of you! We have had a very blessed trip in the United States, but we are also ready to get back to work in Haiti! This summer, the Lord gave us a new vision for the country of Haiti and a strategy to reach all of it. We have been in prayer over this, and in order to expand the ministry and reach farther, we need to multiply our work by starting new bases across Haiti. Haiti has 10 provinces or zones, and our vision is to start a base in each one. We are planning to open our next base in January 2012. Each base will have a mission house to host teams and focus on evangelism and training disciples in that zone. We are very excited about this expansion and believe it will make a great impact to reach Haiti with the Gospel! Please be in prayer for these new bases and the zones they will be located in.

New School

We still have only a few more openings left for the ReachHaiti Discipleship Apprentice Program! We are very excited about this upcoming school which will focus on intense training and on-the-field discipleship in Haiti! The school will begin January 16, 2012 and end May 12, 2012. New Baby

Mike and Andrea are very excited to announce that Andrea is pregnant! So far, she is having a healthy pregnancy with no problems which is an answered prayer! After having 2 miscarriages last year, we feel it is wise for Andrea to remain in the States for the duration of her pregnancy. While she is here, she will be continuing to speak to groups about Haiti and raise support. The team had a busy week ministering to our kids, showing the Jesus Film, holding outside outreaches, ministering in the prison, and distributing rice and beans in our new community. We are excited to announce that we will be graduating 15 first-year students from the ReachHaiti Bible College in Haiti in September! We will be beginning a second-year class this year and also starting another first-year class. We are seeing so much fruit from these young men and women and are excited to see what the future holds for them!

We hope to see many of you during our time in the States! We appreciate each one of you and your support for the ministry.

The last month has been an amazing and blessed month for ReachHaiti Ministries! We have hosted 2 big teams, and after 14 months of hard work, we have moved the kids into their new homes in Gidon!

The last week of June and the first week of July, we hosted 2 big teams at the ReachHaiti Mission House. The first team was from Fairview United Methodist Church from Maryville, Tennessee. The team of 16 worked really hard throughout the week and had a very busy and productive week! We had 5 days of Vacation Bible School in 2 different locations, ReachHaiti Church on Santo 19 and a tent city behind our house. They averaged around 80-125 kids at each location everyday! They taught the kids a very important lesson, “You are special to God.”

While the VBS went on, some of the men worked to stucco the outside of ReachHaiti Church on Santo 19. Now, both the outside and inside of the church have been stuccoed, and it looks great! The team also held a 3-day pastors conference for all the ReachHaiti pastors and leaders in our network. We also had 2 men who completed all the electrical wiring on the new compound making it ready to move in! Each evening was spent showing the Jesus Film or doing outreach outside. Thanks Fairview for such an amazing and fruitful week!

The second team was from Frontline Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The team of 13 helped us with finishing projects on the new compound and getting it ready to move the kids into their new homes including painting the new lockers, painting the tables and benches for the cafeteria, putting up name plates on each child’s locker, cleaning all the houses, and making them pretty for the kids! The team spent a lot of time with our kids playing games, loving on them, and having fun! They spent each evening doing outside outreaches or showing the Jesus Film. We also had a fun trip to the beach with the team, our staff, and all 26 kids! It was a blast! Their last day here was a day we have waited for 14 months now: moving the kids into their new homes! They celebrated the move by having a Warrior Party for all the boys and a Princess Party for all the girls! Thanks Frontline for a blessed and joyous week for us and our kids!

The kids moved into their homes on July 7th and are so happy there! Right now, we have 2 homes for the boys and 2 homes for the girls. We also have the bathhouse complete with 4 separate bathrooms each containing a sink, toilet, and shower. We have a nice, big cafeteria and kitchen where all the kids can eat together and play inside. We have lots of open spaces for soccer games and playing outside.

We also finished all the plumbing and have run water lines outside our wall for the community. Currently, we have 3 faucets outside the wall for the community to come and fill up their buckets a few times each day without having to manually pump water from the community well. This has been a huge blessing to the community of Gidon, and they are very grateful for it! The long line at their well has decreased since we added the faucets. We hope the well will be a blessing not just to us, but to everyone in Gidon now that we can offer free water!

We want to thank all of the many teams we have hosted in the past year who have come and worked on the new compound to make all of this happen in only 14 months! Since October 2010, we have had 120 people stay with us in our mission house. We have 4 more teams scheduled already for the next few months which will house at least 40 more people. Currently, we have one house that we use to host our teams which also serves as Mike and Andrea’s home. It’s almost time to renew our lease here so we have been looking for a larger mission house so we may have more space to ourselves. However, an opportunity has presented itself with the house right across the street from this house which would allow us to rent both houses for the next year for less than renting one larger house. This would give us a home to live in and also a separate mission house just a few yards away. Praise the Lord for sending out your workers to further advance the Gospel in the more remote areas here in Haiti! South Asia was a life-changing experince. It was my first time visiting such a unique culture and people. The first difference is not the language, color of skin, or the heat, but it is the strong devotions to idols! I have never seen idols on such a scale like this before: in every window, pictures on every door. Each night as I lay down to sleep, my heart was breaking for such a people so devoted to emptiness. I was visitng a new believeing family in a city with about 6 million people. He was a bank manager and highly educated man. Not long ago his son was injured in an accident and had to see a therapist. During the doctor visits, the young man became a christian which in-turn led his family to Jesus.

During my visit with them, they were sharing with me that the day they found forgiveness in Jesus, they removed 3 bags of idols from their home. The father was sharing how each morning he would rise very early from bed and begin a ritual with each one of those idols. He would spend hours in devotions. His fear was if he didnt worship or sacrifice to each of them, he would become cursed and lose his job and his family. He continued to share the freedom he found in Jesus.

After a time of sharing, they asked if I would pray for the family and that is when the battle began. I was praying for the Lord’s blessing to remain on this family and to use them, and one of the middle-aged sons began growling and shaking violently! As I finished the prayer, they brought this young man to me. Having experienced this many times on the mission field and in the States, I knew this young man was needing to be set free from demonic powers. First, I calmed the situation and explained to the family from a Biblical perspective that we didn’t need a ritual, but this was simply a battle of the truth and the truth would set him free. I explained, to the young man salvation and following Jesus. I also explained how he must separate himself from idols, forgive people who had hurt him, ect. Once he repented, removed some other idols from his room, and forgave his mother for commiting suicide, Jesus set him free! How beautiful it was to see another soul taken back from the deceitful powers of the enemy!

Something so important about the deliverance that took place was the root of demonic power operating in his life was not the idols! It was the rejection he felt from his mother when she committed suicide! Can you imagine? Most of us would think it he was in bondage because of idol worship, but it was the rejection that was the stronghold. So many peolpe we know are in such pain because of rejection and abandonment! Jesus cares about that pain. He wants to heal our broken hearts, and he is able, more than able. He is aware of every broken heart that is reading this, and he will meet you just where you are, now! Ask him to heal your heart and take away the pain. The answer for sin is in the blood of Jesus and repentance, but the answer to pain is a touch from the risen Savior of the world! Because He is alive, He will heal your emotions.

Since my return to the States, it has take me a while to process my one month in South Asia. When I begin to think back, I still can’t process everything. In so many ways, it is a land filled with darkness and idols, a people who are so religious and devoted to emptiness. It breaks my heart. My thoughts are what if the church-world in the States could just experience the darkness, emptiness, deception, and strongholds of these idols, and then change could truly take place. They would get involved and send more people to do more work.

Think with me for a moment, if you were walking down the street and could not even find a Christian. How would you feel? Or if you wanted to visit a church but there is not one within an hour or two drive? How would you feel? That is what it is like!

Situations like this make me move into action. People must get involved. If we can’t go, we must give to send! Because you all sacrificed and sent me, many lives were changed.

This past week has been one of the most difficult weeks for us in Haiti since the earthquake. Monday morning, Little Michael came down with cholera as well as one of our staff. Saturday morning, Blan also came down with cholera. Cholera is a very dangerous bacteria that causes severe dehydration through diarrhea and vomiting and can lead to death within hours if not treated quickly. It can be spread through water, fruits, vegetables, and through direct contact with someone carrying the bacteria. Although it was a very hard week, the Lord brought us all through it with His grace and strength, and we are victorious over cholera now!

Our little Michael, or “Petite Michael” as he is called here, was the first to come down with cholera. I received a phone call at 5:00 am Monday morning that Michael had started vomiting and having diarrhea late in the night. We immediately rushed him to a clinic who transferred him to a cholera camp. Although he had just began having symptoms a few hours before, his small body was fighting to survive. The doctors had a hard time getting him to stop vomiting, and by late Monday night, he was vomiting blood. Tuesday morning, he finally stopped vomiting but still had severe diarrhea. There was some confusion at the camp and they released him too early on Wednesday. He was readmitted Wednesday night for more IV’s and medications. Thursday morning, he was finally able to sit up on his own and was feeling so much better! He was also eating and ready to go home! He has been at my house since and is like a whole new kids now!! May God get ALL the glory for saving his precious life!

I received another early morning phone call on Saturday morning from Abraham that Blan had also started symptoms of cholera late in the night. We rushed her to the same cholera camp Michael was at and she was immediately admitted and treated for cholera. However, God gave her a miraculously quick recovery! She was able to come home on Sunday afternoon and was back to herself! She has also stayed with me and Michael at my house to keep watch over them for the first day or two.

As of today, Monday May 23, both Michael and Blan are like new kids and back to themselves! They are eating me out of house and home and playing all the time! Since cholera has up to a 5 day incubation period, we also had to take extra precautions and completely disinfect the entire orphanage house and everything in it. We have spent most of our time this week washing everything inside and outside the house. We were forced to burn some things because they weren’t able to be cleaned or disinfected properly. We have replaced a lot of the kids’ clothes, bedding, towels, and mattresses. We also had to buy new water gallons and baskets to put their new clothes in. We bleached everything we could and every wall and floor of the house to prevent the spread of cholera to someone else. We also took precautions and treated all the kids and staff with proper antibiotics and rehydration liquids. We have done everything possible to ensure that no one else contracts this horrible illness. We haven’t found the source of the cholera yet, and we may never know for sure. However, God has protected us once again and got us through another difficult week in Haiti, and may He receive all the glory for this week!!  I want to say a very special thanks to my good friend, Jennifer, who arrived on May 14th, just before the cholera started. We were able to throw Marilyn a big birthday party on Sunday, but were forced to cancel all our other plans for the week to deal with the cholera outbreak. Jenn, I am truly grateful for you sacrifice, flexibility, and support this week! I also want to thank some fellow missionaries who jumped in to help me clean and have supported me through each moment of this week: April, Virginia, Greg, and Michelle. Thanks to all of you who have been praying so hard for us! The Lord got us through it all,and we are victorious again in Jesus!! Mike is still having a great trip in Asia! He will be flying back later this week to the States. He has had a very fruitful time there and the Lord has blessed his trip tremendously! Thanks to everyone who helped support him to go and for praying for him! We will update more when he returns! The month of April has been another very busy and fruitful month in Haiti! We have been working hard to finish the new compound and have got a lot done this month!

We would like to share with you all some exciting news! We are so thankful for the relationship the Lord has formed with Child of Purpose Inc. Through this relationship, we expect the orphanage to go from a good place to a place of excellence. Darren, the founder of Child of Purpose, came and spent a week with us to see the work first hand. During his time with us, we were able to get to know each other more and also confirmed that the Lord has brought this relationship together. So Darren, from us and our kids, we want to say, “Thank you and may the Lord bless you!”

The Cafeteria and Water System

The new cafeteria has been built! We put the roof on and have almost finished stuccoing the inside. We have also added 2 large water tanks to the well house and installed the water lines from the well to the bath house. We have also installed the toilets and sinks for the bath house: pink for the girls and blue for the boys! We have also begun paving sidewalks to connect all the houses together.

Our RIO Team

We had a team from our home church, RIO Central Church in Maryville, Tennessee April 2nd-9th. The team worked very hard on the land each day and showed the Jesus film at night. They also spent a day in the mountains of Foret des Pins preaching at 2 of our churches deep in the mountains. In just a week, they were able to build custom lockers in all of the new children’s homes and build new tables and benches for the cafeteria.  They also helped stucco the new cafeteria and dig the water lines. The last day, we spend time with the kids and took them out to see their future homes for the first time! They are all so excited and ready to move in! Thanks team for such your hard work and willingness to serve!

Mike’s Upcoming Trip to Asia

Mike will be leaving Haiti on Friday to head back to Tennessee and then on to Asia on Tuesday, May 3rd. We are still needing funds for him to purchase supplies such as food, Bibles, blankets, ect. for distribution among unreached people.
