Expanding Our Borders

Unreached People Groups

What is an unreached people group? The standard definition is this: “A people group within which there is no indigenous community of believing Christians able to evangelize the people group.”

With out going into a long discourse on unreached people groups, I will give you one thought on it: “The task Jesus gave His church is not finished.” The best count I could find is that there are still between 1,500 and 2,000 people groups in the world that would be classified as “Unreached with the Gospel.”

Andrea and I have been praying for a long time to be involved in finishing this task. The opportunity has arrived. I have been invited to go to an Asian country with the largest number of unreached people groups in the world.

Mike Is Going!

I will be flying out on May 3rd to the other side of the world to share the Gospel with Muslim and Hindu peoples. I will be traveling with a small team from my home church, Restoration International Outreach. We will be preaching crusades, training leaders in the emerging church, and going into prisons. I will remain with the team till they return on May 12th.  Afterwards, I will remain in Asia until May 26th, and then fly back to Tennessee.

When the team leaves, I will work with a local ministry. Myself and an indigenous pastor will be going into smaller villages where there are are no known Christians. We will be going in with the hopes of leading people to Jesus and planting the seed for the future church to emerge. We will also be visiting children’s homes, handicap villages, and small churches that have recently been planted.

An Opportunity for You

When we visit the villages, children’s homes, and handicap villages, we want to be a blessing. I need to be able to purchase food, sleeping mats, Bibles and any other items that would be a blessing to the people.

I need to raise a minimum of $2,000 – $3,000 USD to purchase these relief items and Bibles. This is an opportunity to sow a seed to bring physical relief to many and encourage the emerging church with Bibles.

The base cost of this one month trip has already been raised/covered by our most faithful supporters (approx. $4,500) for flights, lodging, food, and car rental. All of the money that comes in now will go directly to purchase relief items and Bibles.

Also, you might be a Pastor, Missions Leader, or Sunday School leader and your group would like to donate. Please don’t wait because we need your support now since Mike is leaving in less than 2 weeks. You can make a big difference!

We would also like each of you to please be in prayer for this trip and specifically for Mike and the team’s safety, strength for the long distances they will be traveling, open doors and opportunities to share the Gospel, healings and miracles, and souls to be saved for Jesus!

You can go directly to this link and donate now through our website or you can mail a check to ReachHaiti Ministries at P.O. Box 5945 Maryville, TN 37802. Please make the check out to RIO Church and place a note on it for ReachHaiti Ministries or Michael and Andrea Brewer.

Thank You!

We appreciate each of you for your continued support and for each of you who will be sowing either financially or through prayer for this journey! Andrea will be staying in Haiti through the end of May to continue finishing the new compound and running the ministry. For more information, please email us at ReachHaiti@gmail.com.

Updates from March

March has been a busy and blessed month so far! We apologize for the lack of updates recently, but we have had limited internet access since we came back to Haiti. We have already hosted 2 teams this month and have made some great progress on the new compound! We are excited about what’s to come in the next few months!

We had a team from Fairview United Methodist Church in Maryville, Tennessee spend a week with us working hard on the new compound! They built the new well house for our well which will keep the well safe and secured. They also helped lay block and build the walls for the new cafeteria! The wired the new bath house and also worked on our truck. We showed the Jesus Film 3 nights and also preached a revival service with Pastor Hubert at the ReachHaiti Church on Santo 19. Thanks so much team for all your hard work and support!

During the same week, we also hosted a team of young men from the University of Kentucky during their Spring Break. The guys worked hard each morning on the land helping to level the ground, spread dirt, and build the walls on the cafeteria. Each afternoon, the team did a VBS with our kids on different Bible stories. They also went with us to show the Jesus Film during the evenings. The kids had such a great time with the team, and we really appreciate you guys for coming down to serve on your Spring Break!

After a very hard working week, the walls for the new cafeteria are up! We will be putting the roof on soon. The cafeteria is designed with a locked depot to store all the food and supplies for the orphanage as well as a kitchen, serving buffet, and large room for eating. We hope to finish the cafeteria very soon! We want to say a special thanks to Pastor Ronnie Hepperly and RIO Central Church for their donation towards the new cafeteria!

Mike and Andrea will be returning to the mountains of Forte de Pin tomorrow morning where Mike will preach a large service at one of our churches as well as visit another church in our network. The pastors have been preparing for this service for a month now, and we are expecting God to do great things through it!

We will be hosting our next team from RIO Central Church in Maryville, Tennessee next week. The team will be continuing to work on the new compound and will be building in new lockers for the children’s homes. They will also be doing evangelism so please be praying for a fruitful week!

We want to thank all of you for your continued support and prayers for the ministry here in Haiti! We appreciate each one of you! God has done so many amazing things recently, and we are looking forward to moving the kids into their new homes this summer!

A Blessed and Busy Month!

January was certainly and very blessed and very busy month in Haiti! We apologize for the lack of recent updates. The Lord has greatly blessed the ministry so far this year, and we are excited to share everything with all of you!

From January 8-15, we hosted a team from Monte Vista Baptist Church from Maryville, Tennessee. The team worked hard all week to lay the foundation for the new bathhouse as well as helped us throw our Christmas party with the kids and help around the mission house. The team was such a blessing to us and also installed a new inverter and batteries on the mission house giving us power during the day now! We are so grateful for the team, their service, and hard work for the week! You were all truly a blessing to us and to Haiti!

All 4 Children’s Homes are now up on the new land! We still have some small finishing work to do in each home, but we are thrilled to have them all up now! We have also put up the bathhouse and just need to finish the inside and install the sinks, toilets, and showers. We will be working hard to finish the houses and plan to move the kids out into their new homes by May!

Watch our latest video with all the new homes by clicking here!

The month of January ended with another great blessing! The new well was dug to 205 feet inside the new compound! This well was truly a miracle, and we are so grateful to those who helped make this possible! The well will have both an electric pump and a manual pump. We will be building a well house to protect it in March as well as working on installing the water system for the entire compound. We will also be putting up 2 600-gallon water tanks, one for the compound and one for the community. We will have 10 places outside the wall where the community can come and receive clean water!

Although it was a little late, we had another successful Happy Birthday Jesus party with our kids in January! The party was a huge success as usual and the kids had a blast! We want to say a special thanks to everyone who helped by donating presents and all our monthly child sponsors! The kids got to enjoy another Christmas and celebrate the birth of Jesus!

We want to say thanks to everyone who helped start 2011 off with so many blessings! We have had a successful speaking trip here in Tennessee and will be heading to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on Thursday and Dallas, Texas on March 1st. We may still have some openings in our speaking schedule. Please email us asap if you would like to have us come and share about Haiti at ReachHaiti@gmail.com. We will be flying back to Haiti on March 7th to get back to work! Thanks to each of you who support us and help make this ministry possible!

Discipleship Adventure!

Are you satisfied with where you are in your Christian walk? Are you looking for something more? Do you feel God has something more for you? If so, you might be one of the five people we are looking for to attend the ReachHaiti Ministries Discipleship Adventure. What is the Discipleship Adventure? It is a 9-week intense training that will transform you into a true Disciple of Christ. The training will be located in Croix Des Bouquets, Haiti. For 9 weeks, you will live at the ReachHaiti Ministry base and be immersed into another culture while focusing on becoming all that Jesus wants you to be.

What is faith? Where did the Bible come from? What happens to people who have never had the chance to hear about Jesus? How do you share your faith effectively? What is the Church? Where do you fit into the picture of Christian History? These are all questions that will be answered during our time in the Discipleship Adventure. Not only will we be answering questions, but together, we will be learning about God’s Word, local and international missions, hearing direction from the Holy Spirit, how to study the Bible effectively, and much much more! At the end of Discipleship Adventure, you will have a solid understanding of what it is like to follow Christ wherever He leads.

Discipleship Adventure is a training focused on fulfilling the Great Commission of Jesus to make Disciples of all nations. During your time at the ReachHaiti Discipleship Adventure, you will grow in your faith as we together reach out to the local villages, towns, and mountain communities of Haiti. The Lord has used ReachHaiti Ministries this year to reach father than we ever expected and has allowed us to be involved in so many amazing outreaches in Haiti!

Here are just a few things the Lord allowed us to be a part of in 2010:

  • Over 102,000 meals had been fed
  • 8 New children have been added to our home for a total of 26 kids now!
  • The new compound should be finished by this summer!

Baby Marilyn Update

YouTube Preview Image

Most of you know Baby Marilyn’s Story already. As we have been looking back on 2010 and everything Haiti has been through, we have been amazed at what all the Lord has done in the ministry this year. Baby Marilyn’s story has also been one that has amazed us. The Lord spared her life and allowed us to be involved. She has grown and truly become a happy and healthy little girl now! We want all of you to see her transformation from January to now.

“And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters,[a] you were doing it to me!”

- Matthew 25:40 NLT

The New Wall is Going Up!

The Pathway team building the wall

The New Wall is Going Up!

We had a hard-working and busy week last week! We were joined by a team from Pathway Church from Mobile, Alabama who helped us build the outside wall around the new orphanage compound in Gidon. In just 3 days, the team was able to lay over 2,200 blocks! We are working hard to finish the wall and the new compound! Thanks to Pathway Church for your hard work and support!

YWAM Ministry Continues

The YWAM team doing a drama

The team from YWAM Guatemala has been continuing to do street evangelism everyday and helped us Sunday morning lead a service at ReachHaiti Church in Sarthe with Pastor Jacques. They have also birthed a new fellowship of converts in our neighborhood and have been having Bible studies and services with them in the evenings. Please continue to pray for their team and for strength to continue! They have been such a blessing to us and the ministry! Thanks for serving with us YWAM team!

Partnership with ReachHaiti

Mike with Pastor Jacques at ReachHaiti Church in Sarthe

Our goal with this email is to raise $1,000 or more for staff, ministry, and orphanage expenses while we’re gone. Although we are in Tennessee, the ministry in Haiti must continue to move forward! Upcoming Visit to Tennessee

Mike and Andrea will be flying back to Tennessee December 7th-January 5th. We still have some openings in our schedule to speak so if you would like us to come and share about the ministry in Haiti, please email us at ReachHaiti@gmail.com.

As Haiti has been through a very difficult year, we really appreciate all of our supporters and all of your prayers to keep us strong and for us to continue to serve in Haiti!

A Busy and Fruitful Week!

This has been a very busy but VERY fruitful week for ReachHaiti Ministries! Our team from New Jersey left, our team from Bright Arrows Church came, and the YWAM team has stayed strong and continued to minister to our community! The Lord has really blessed the ministry this week and we have seen amazing results so far! This is only the beginning…

YWAM’s Week of Evangelism

This week alone, the team from YWAM Guatemala has partnered with us to show the Jesus Film 4 nights, minister in 4 local schools, and take the Gospel to the streets through evangelism! Since Monday, over 1,200 people have seen the Jesus Film, almost 500 students were ministered to in their schools, and 14 people were saved through street evangelism in our community! They witnessed to a family who lives near us who all wanted to repent and receive Christ! They asked the team to help them start a church fellowship out of their home so they can reach out to more people! God has really expanded their efforts this week, and we are grateful to partner alongside them! They will be hitting the streets again today and this week to continue to share the Gospel with everyone they can!

Ministry with Bright Arrows

We were so excited to have our team from Bright Arrows Church from Oklahoma come be with us this week and work alongside us. They helped with the Jesus Film, preached on Sunday morning at ReachHaiti’s Church on Santo 19, and ministered to us through a powerful prayer service Saturday night. Thank you Bright Arrows and all you do for ReachHaiti Ministries and the Kingdom of God! YOUR prayers make a difference!

Construction Continues

Construction continues on the new land for the new compound! We have also been busy working on the outside security wall around the new land in Gidon all week. We have a team from Pathway Church from Mobile, Alabama arriving today to help us continue working on the wall all this week! Please pray for God’s favor to continue to bless this land and allow us to get it finished!

Thank you!!

We can’t thank all of you enough for your support and prayers! Honestly, your prayers make all the difference in this ministry! We have been posting more pictures on Andrea’s facebook page and some new team videos on YouTube. Remember to also watch our website for new updates and for more information about our ministry! www.ReachHaiti.com God bless!

Our Greatest Harvest!!

We are anticipating the largest monthly harvest of our history! The first week of this month has set us in the position for the greatest harvest in ReachHaiti Ministries history! Our Haitian mission team is in the Dominican Republic, and they have already had over 1,300 people receive Christ. By partnering with our team from YWAM, we have been showing the Jesus film and ministering in schools everyday with hundreds coming to Jesus. At the same time, we have construction taking place on the orphanage compound and will receive a team next week to complete the outside security wall. Pray for strength and endurance as we seek to expand God’s Kingdom everyday!

We have been looking at the yearly results for ReachHaiti Ministries, and once again, we are amazed at what all the Lord has done. We will share these totals in December with everyone.

We have had a much needed bus donated to Reachhaiti Ministries. This bus is such  a blessing to us. When we have big teams we have to rent a bus or another truck which can get very expensive. This takes much needed resources from the ministry to cover such cost. Once the bus is in our procession we will no longer have to pay for such things. We will also have the ability to host larger teams and expand the ministry.

The bus in in excellent condition thanks to Garell Foshee and his family. He has worked so hard to prepare this bus with tires, batteries, restoration of the top and many other things. He is also driving it to Florida from Tennessee. Thanks to Garell and his family for such a sacrifice of time and resources.

We have talked with the shipping company and they are giving us a miracle price. Altogether, we will have to pay an estimated price of $2,000 – $2,500. This will cover the freight forwarding company, shipping company and the customs tax in Haiti.

On Tuesday, we will have several things coming on a container to Haiti. Coming on this container will be Christmas for the orphanage, a/c units for the mission house, 3 generators, clothing for the kids, suits for our Pastors, tools, and many other much needed necessities.

We will not have to pay the customs tax for this unit because it is already covered in the rental price. To rent the space for everything will cost us about $1,500 – $1,750. We are asking you to help us get these items to the ministry asap.

Both the bus and container are leaving Tennessee on Tuesday. If each person receiving this email sowed a $25 seed, everything would be covered. Most likely every person will not sow a seed, so we are asking you for a sacrificial seed to cover these expenses. Please pray about your part and the seed you can sow to make this happen!

Again, we want to thank all of you who make this ministry possible! Please continue to pray for this month that we see the greatest harvest we have ever seen! If you would like to sow a seed towards these great needs, please visit our website at www.ReachHaiti.com or you can mail a check to:

Cholera Update and Team Results

The doors were opened to us again in the prison in Mirebalais where we visited last week to discover the cholera epidemic had spread inside its walls. We weren’t sure if we would be allowed back into the prison due to the outbreak, but God granted us favor again and the guards opened the doors for the Gospel to be shared to all the prisoners inside. There are still around 50 prisoners who are under tents in the courtyard battling the cholera while the other 270 prisoners are still locked tightly inside their small cells. However, faced with this epidemic, they were all open to hearing the Gospel of Jesus. Mike and the team from RIO Restoration along with ReachHaiti’s Pastor Roman and Pastor Jacques headed back into the prisons and shared the Gospel message. After Mirebalais, the team continued ministering to prisons north of Port au Prince over the next two days to the prisons in Hinche and St. Marc (the central outbreak of the cholera epidemic). Even in the midst of the cholera epidemic, the doors were opened for the Gospel to be shared. The team also distributed almost 1,000 bars of antibacterial soap along with Bible study booklets and Bibles to the prisoners and the guards. In just two days, over 375 prisoners repented and gave their lives to Christ! When they left the prisons, the team were also able to make contact to several family members who didn’t know their relatives were in prison at the time. Praise the Lord for continuing to open doors and allowing us to share the Gospel even in the midst of crisis.

The RIO Restoration Team also spent the first 3 days of their week in Forte de Pin, the community in the clouds high on the mountains. They did leadership training and pastoral conferences each day and had services and showed the Jesus Film the final night. The team saw around 125 people who repented and received Christ up on the mountain in those 3 days. ReachHaiti currently has around 20 churches scattered on the mountain who are wanting to affiliate with ReachHaiti Ministries and partner with us long-term. We are in prayer and planning with each of these churches to see what the Lord’s will is for us. Discipleship and training are both great needs to the churches in the mountains so please continue to pray that we may establish much needed Bible training schools for these existing churches. Our goal is to mobilize and train the existing churches to reach into the areas and villages throughout the mountains who don’t yet have the Gospel established.
While the RIO Restoration team was busy in the mountains and the prisons, Andrea and Kim were busy running a team mostly from New York doing medical clinics. In just 6 days, over 350 people were treated in medical clinics in Gidon and at other orphanages. Dr. Rich from New York who was with us right after the earthquake came back again with some other people to help serve the Haitians. We also had construction going on the land in Gidon all week to build the security wall around the compound. Bob, another team member from New York, finished wiring all the new houses for electricity as well as fixing some electrical problems around our house. Thanks team for sacrificing your time and serving the Haitians this week!
So far, the cholera outbreak in Haiti hasn’t reached our hometown, Croix des Bouquets, However, the Lord has allowed us to be involved both medically and more importantly, by sharing the Gospel to hundreds of people in the midst of this epidemic. To read more about ReachHaiti Ministries’ involvement in the cholera outbreak, please visit our website at www.ReachHaiti.com. You can also read articles posted by CNN by clicking here and by The Daily Times by clicking here.

Mike and Andrea will be coming back to Tennessee on December 7-January 5 and are available to speak at churches, small groups, Sunday School classes, schools, ect. about the ministry in Haiti. If you would like to have Mike and Andrea come and speak, please email us atReachHaiti@gmail.com as soon as possible.

Thanks so much for all the prayers and support to help us keep reaching Haiti! A special thanks to RIO Restoration Church in Maryville, Tennessee and to Dr. Rich and his team from New York who all came and served alongside us last week to expand the Gospel all over Haiti! Keep praying for this nation and for God to continue to open doors for us to take the Gospel where others aren’t going!
