Why we do what we do!

Mike and I received a letter yesterday that we wanted to share with all of you. Wesley, who is 19, moved into our house about 6 weeks ago. He has been a great help to us. When Abraham is in school, Wesley helps with the kids, goes to the market, and translates for us. He also knows how to sow and has made some uniforms for our kids to start school. Wesley takes time everyday before he goes to school to pray with the kids and teach them new songs in both Creole and English. He has been a blessing to us and our home. Wesley grew up in an orphanage with Abraham. His father died, and his mother was too poor to take care of him. He had asked Mike and I if he could stay here and help us do whatever needed done. He didn’t want money, just housing and food. Wesley wrote us a letter yesterday and we want to share it with you:

Dear Andrea and Mike,

Thank you cause you accept me here in your house to help about that I can. Thank you again by the way you serving with me. God will bless you more. My family aren’t Christians and I asked God to live among Christian people. Now I find that what I was asking the Lord. I always bless about your messages. I felt the need to do bad things but when I heard your messages, often I felt I can’t stop. In the same way, I must change now. I completely changed. Thank you cause you show me the true way of God. I’m happy to live here in this house with you. If I did something bad, you can tell me then we can fix it. I’m happy to be your family in the name of Jesus Christ!

I LOVE YOU SO MUCH
From: Wesley

This is why we do what we do everyday. To see the Lord grow in someone is priceless. Wesley is just one of the many success stories we have heard since we’ve been here. We will continue to share testimonies of those who have been impacted as a result of ReachHaiti Ministries and your support. When you give to this ministry, you can be sure your money is being put into good ground. God bless all of you who have made this work in Haiti possible. We pray for each of you everyday!

It said, “Lucifer”

With evil in her face, a deep voiced responded and said, “Lucifer.”

With a week of prayer behind us and great anticipation in our hearts, we visited a new area last night. The question was simply this: “Does the Lord want us to begin a new fellowship in this area?” While preparing to show the Jesus film, the crowd had already grown to over 150 people. They were excited we had visited them and were already asking us to return.

We had over 500 people watching the film just after darkness had fallen. I was sitting on the motorcycle praying for God to convict people as they learn of the true life of Jesus. As the film was nearing the last 15 minutes, where Jesus was going to the cross, I heard screams and saw people all turning to see the commotion. It is not uncommon for Haitian people to get very excited quickly, so I was waiting to see if it would pass or not. After a few seconds, I realized something was happening that needed my attention.

As I approached the situation, I was asking myself if this was a fight or was it demonic? When I got through the crowd, I saw a woman on the ground acting like a snake and two men trying to drag her off! I stopped the men and was trying to ask our Pastor what her name was. To my surprise, a demon spoke out of the woman and said, “Lucifer!” A little caught off guard, I quickly took authority over the demon, and the woman came to her right mind. I told the crowd to go back to the film because the purpose of the manifestation was to distract the people from hearing the Gospel. When we looked for the woman again, she had ran away!

It was a powerful night because we had over 300 people make a confession of receiving Jesus as LORD!

We are going back to this area Wednesday and meeting with the new converts to discuss starting a new Fellowship. We are very confident the Lord began a new work there last night!

Please be in prayer for all of the new converts and for God to give us the wisdom to teach and train them. Also, be in prayer for Pastor Jacques as he has accepted the position of Zone Pastor over this area. We have worked with him for a year now, and he has proven to be a faithful man of God.

Each time we go out to show the Jesus film, it cost us between $5 and $10 USD to purchase gasoline for the generator. Yes, gasoline is about $5 per gallon here! It doesn’t sound like much until you do it three or more times a week! We are extending to you an opportunity to take part in this work. Will you become a partner today? A monthly sponsor of only $25 will cover 3 – 5 outreaches per month! If you can’t commit to monthly sponsorship, will you consider a one-time donation? A donation of $25, $50, $100 or more will help us reach out and share the Gospel with a nation in deep darkness! Click her to donate now!

God Bless,

Mike and Andrea,

Meet our kids!

We have updated the website so you can all learn about each of the kids who live in our home. Read their stories and learn where they come from! We are trying to get all of our kids in school asap but we need your help to do it! We have started an Education Sponsorship Program which allows you to help us send our kids to school! For only 15$ per month or $180 per year, you can send a child to school! This amount also includes the cost of tuition, all books, and their uniform. Education in Haiti is very important because it will increase our kids’ chance for a better life once they leave our home! For only fifty cents per day, you can give the gift of education!

Here are the bios for all the kids who currently live in our home. Read their stories and learn where they come from!

Blandyine
Blandyine

Blandyine is from City Soleil and is 3 years old. She has an older brother, Samuel, and an older sister, Lovely, who both also live with us. Her father was killed, but her mother, Mary, just recently moved in with us also. She is our dorm mom for the kids and also helps with the cooking and the laundry in our house. Mary owns a small square in the slums of City Soleil where she is trying to build a house, but only has a small stick frame up right now. Blan, her mom, and her siblings were staying with a friend in a very small concrete hut in the slums of City Soleil before they moved in with us. Blan has only been in our house about 2 weeks, but she is a joy! She is always smiling and laughing! She is always trying to sneak upstairs to spend time with Mike and I. She’s a little clumsy girl, but she is also very animated. Blan likes to play with the younger kids with their toy trucks or playing imagination! Sometimes, she is driving a car with a stick or trying to jump rope which she still hasn’t quite mastered.

He can be a little sneaky and mischievous at times by trying to sneak up on others and scare them. Nonetheless, he always keeps things interesting and always keeps us laughing! He’s full of the joy of the Lord and always has a smile on his face! Sadak also loves soccer and dancing.

All he has known is violence and poverty. He always looks out for his younger sister. When he first moved into our house, Bernardo had a parasite which had caused his face to change to a lighter color. After two weeks of medicine, the parasites are gone, and his face is back to normal. He loves to play soccer and is learning karate. He loves it too! Bernardo loves the Lord and is learning to be an example to the younger ones in our home, both morally and spiritually. He is learning and growing everyday. Bernardo tries so hard to please people. Lovely is a very bold 10 year-old girl. She is very direct and matter-of-fact, no beating around the bush. She has a younger brother, Samuel, and a younger sister, Blandyine, who both live with us as well. Her mother, Mary, also lives with us now and is our dorm mom for our kids. She is from City Soleil. Her father was killed and her mother was staying with a friend in a small, concrete shack in the slums of City Soleil. Their family is also very poor. Lovely has always had to look after her younger brother and little sister which is probably why she is so direct. She doesn’t really know how to be a child. She is very motherly with some of the younger kids and can be very nurturing. She also loves to pray and knows the power of prayer. She is very helpful around the house by washing clothes and helping clean. She is always wanting to serve you in any way she can. Lovely talks with a rasp in her voice. She says it’s because she wasn’t allowed to cry as a child. We are happy she’s here with us now and out of City Soleil.

Michael
Michael

Michael is a special, young boy. When we first arrived in Haiti, Michael was extremely anemic, malnourished, and very small for a four-year-old boy weighing only 28 pounds. He sat and stared idly for hours at a time, not playing or running as a young boy should. His mouth is full of black, rotting teeth due to his severe malnourishment. According to the doctor, Michael would not be alive today if we had not taken him in when we did. He was on the verge of death which is sadly the case with thousands of children in Haiti. Now, Michael is running and playing all the time. He doesn’t stop! Michael is a little spoiled now and is a funny little kid! He loves toy trucks and trying to pla soccer with the bigger boys. He loves life and is full of joy!

Gregison is a four year old little boy who is full of life! His mother was very young and unable to take care of him anymore. He has only been in our home a couple of weeks, but he’s been thriving ever since he moved in! He had a very large belly full of parasites when he first got here, but after some deworming medication, his stomach has gone down tremendously! He seems to feel a lot better! Gregison has quite an imagination! Early in the mornings, Mike and I will wake up to him pretending he’s a loud truck honking and beeping at everyone! He will use a stick for a steering wheel and drive all over our front yard! He also likes music. Gregison likes to turn a bucket upside down and use it for a drum. He’s fit in very well here, and we love having him!

Esterlynn
Esterlynn

Esterlynn is a very special child to us. Our good friend, Diddi from Canada, brought her back from her village, Dinni. She was extremely sick and almost dead when she arrived. Diddi immediately took her to the hospital where she stayed a week. She was extremely malnourished and underweight. She had quit eating. After a week in the hospital, Esterlynn came back to our house to recoup until she was able to return to her village. However, with healthy meals, she has become a new child! She is full of energy now and eats all the time. We wanted her to stay, but we left the decision up to her. At first, she wanted to go back to her village, but the next day, her grandfather showed up at our gate saying she wanted to come back. She has been here ever since. Her parents are both still alive but are both very young and unable to care for her. We love having her here! She definitely has a lot of personality to be such a little girl! She is five years old and is starting to be a child again. She loves to jump rope and play pretend with the other little kids. She has no problem expressing her opinion on any subject and loves to watch movies!

Marie Flores is 14 years old and is from a small village called Dini. She is a relative of Esterlynn and has been in our home for a few weeks now. Her father died and her mother was trying to care for 7 children. Dini is a very small, remote village and there are little to no opportunities for a better life. Marie Flores is a very sweet young girl and has a true servant’s heart. She is a great help around our house and also helps take care of the younger kids. She is a joy to have in our home, and we are glad to have her!

Wilnise
Wilnise

Wilnise is 8 years old and is form City Soleil. Her mother is alive but her father was killed. Their tin shack in City Soleil housed 11 people including her mother, her grandmother, and her brother. Wilnise is full of joy and loves to smile! When she first arrived in our home, she was unable to use her left arm and walked with a limp. We thought she had had a stroke. We asked her mother what had happened, and over a year ago, Wilnise had fell twice and quit using her arm. We took her to the doctor and found out she had gonorrhea from sexual abuse. With some treatment and some TLC, Wilnise is now able to raise her arm and squeeze her hand for the first time in over a year! She is so excited and is learning slowly how to use her arm again. Wilnise is full of love and is always smiling! We are excited to see her growing both physically and spiritually everyday and can’t wait to see how the Lord uses her in the future!

Samuel has been learning to fight karate and loves it! He is a very sweet boy but is also very quiet and keeps to himself. He also likes to play ball with the other kids. We have started a game where Mike and I throw a ball down from our balcony and the kids try to throw it back up to us. He loves it! Tiga
Tiga

Tiga is very special to Mike and I. Many of you know, we had a tragedy right after we first arrived in Haiti. Tiga and another boy, James, both fell down an old abandoned well on our property that we were unaware of. James died in the fall. Tiga, however, survived by the grace of God. He fell at least 30 feet. He had cut his head very badly and had surgery for some internal bleeding. He came back home after only one week in the hospital. He told the doctor and all the hospital that he was alive because of Jesus and he wouldn’t die! He’s such a fighter. Tiga just turned 6 years old and is still very little. He has the biggest eyes of any child I have seen. Tiga is from City Soleil. Both of his parents are still alive, but they are unable to care for him due to severe poverty. Tiga also has a baby sister who still lives in City Soleil. He is very quiet and shy, but he is also a very loving little boy who wants to be held all the time. He has made a full recovery from his fall and is back to being a typical boy. He runs and plays with the other kids now. We know Tiga is a miracle from the Lord. Even his doctor told us that the fall should have killed him. We know God has big plans for his life and that he was spared for a great purpose. We love Tiga and are so happy he lives with us!

Renette

Renette is from City Soleil and her brother, Sadrak, also lives with us. Her mother is alive and lives in the slums but her father was killed. She also has a younger brother and a baby sister, who we are also trying to take in soon. She is 10 years old. You can tell she has never lived off the streets by her actions. She is a very sweet and loving young girl who has had a very hard life. She was covered in scabies when she first got here, but we have her being treated for them now. She has made a quick recovery but still has scars all over her body for not receiving treatment. Renette is definitely a tomboy. She loves to play soccer and will go one-on-one with her brother, Sadrak. She’s very competitive and holds her own with the boys. She has adapted very well to living in our home, but we have had to teach her a lot of basics. Coming from the streets, Renette had never had discipline or clean hygiene. She was very shy when she first moved in, but now, she has become very loving and outgoing!

A long and sleepless night…

Evangelism at a voodoo temple near our house

Evangelism at a voodoo temple near our house

What a night! Last night was a normal night for Andrea and myself. We were very happy to see a local church was having a street service/crusade near our home. This is what we had been praying for: the local church to actively share the gospel in this community. We went to bed around 10:30 since it had already been dark about 5 hours. Shortly after retiring, I was awakened by the loud sound of the local voodoo temple having a service. It was much louder than normal, and there were many more people participating. So I decided to stay up and pray for a while. A few minutes later, another area began a new voodoo ceremony, and before long, there were three locations within a five minute walk of our house worshipping Satan and the spirits of voodoo. I was listening  to chants, drums, and shouts coming from the voodoo service closest to our house when suddenly, a woman began to violently scream for several minutes. She had just received her voodoo spirit, and that was the manifestation of it!

As you know, today is Halloween in the States. We are very happy to hear stories of the churches back in Tennessee offering children a safe and Godly alternative to the traditions of Halloween. However, Halloween in Haiti is quite different than our candy celebration in the States. In our American culture, it “appears” very harmless; in Haitian culture, it is all but harmless. The animals that were sacrificed last night to the demons are a testimony to the evil that is present in this celebration. It is known as All Saints Day or The Day of The Dead.

This celebration officially begins November 1 in Haiti. Last night was just a warm up to what will happen for the next several days. It is a minimum of a two-day celebration here in Haiti. Even many of the schools have a 3-day celebration with no actual classes, just parties to celebrate Satan.

While Haiti is celebrating the dead all around the country Sunday night, we will be in the heart of it showing the Jesus film. They may choose to celebrate the dead, but we choose to proclaim the resurrection of Jesus, who is no longer dead but alive and seated at the right hand of the Father.

We ask you to keep us in prayer over the next few days while all of this is taking place. Also, help us pray that God will give us wisdom of how to reach the people who we are sent to.

Celebrating The Resurrection,

Mike & Andrea Brewer

November Newsletter

First, thanks to all of our supporters. We understand many of you are facing hard times in the States. At the same time, there are many ministries in Haiti closing up shop and moving back home. Many of those that remain have cut back on ministry and trimmed their budgets. During this time of sifting, God has given us the grace to press on for more souls and save more children from the slums and filth of City Soleil. We are determined not to cut back but to press on with the Gospel. Your sacrificial giving has gone into good ground and is showing the promise of a great harvest. This has been a great month on the mission field of Haiti.
Below is the list of what your giving has produced since October!

~ Prepared and served 2,435 meals
~ Orphanage grew from 14 to 19 children
~ Over 3,500 people heard the message of sin and salvation
~ 650 came to faith, approximately
~ The church has grown from 33 to over 100 in attendance
~ Hosted our first team from the States
~ Birthed a ministry in City Soleil
~ Birthed “The Reach 100,000 Haitian’s” Campaign
~ Added partners from New York, Canada, Texas, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, and Oklahoma
As we set here writing this and looking back over the past month, we are amazed at what the Lord has done. He has shown us His faithfulness once again.

The Children Added This Month
Lynnette (age 10), Esterlynn (age 5), Blanca (age 3), Marie Flores (age 14),  and Gregison (age 4) are children that have been rescued from sickness, disease, poverty, and possible death. Esterlynn is a very special child to us. Our good friend, Diddi from Canada, brought her back from her village, Dini. She was extremely sick and almost dead when she arrived. Diddi immediately took her to the hospital where she stayed a week. She was extremely malnourished and underweight. She had quit eating and starvation had already begun. After a week in the hospital, Esterlynn came back to our house to recoup until she was able to return to her village. However, with healthy meals and some love, she has become a new child! She is full of energy now and eats all the time. At first, she wanted to go back to her village, but the next day, her grandfather showed up at our gate saying she wanted to come back. She has been here ever since. We love having her here too. She definitely has a lot of personality to be such a little girl! She is only five years old and is starting to be a child again. She loves to jump rope and play pretend with the other little kids. She has no problem expressing her opinion on any subject and loves to watch movies! We know Esterlynn wouldn’t be here today if Diddi hadn’t brought her out of her village and into our home. To see the Lord at work through such a young child is indescribable. The Lord has spared her life, and we are excited to see the plans God has for her! Thank you because your support allowed us to be here for her!

The Children’s Needs
As most of you know, we had an accident that happened when two of our children fell into the well after being in Haiti only a few weeks. When this happened, it drained much of our finances, specifically our education fund.
Our current child sponsorship program at $30/month covers food, clothing, medical expenses, housing and most of the necessities for the children, but  it is not enough to cover their schooling. Outside of food and housing, their school is the most expensive item on our budget.
Starting immediately, we are offering an EDUCATION SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM. This will cover the cost of uniforms, books, and school tuition.
Their are 2 ways to get involved in the education of the children.
Monthly Education Sponsorship at $15 per child / click here to start
Yearly Education Sponsorship at $180 per child / click here to start
If someone is interested in sponsoring all of our 19 children for the year, the total cost is $3,420 USD. Click here to Donate

Feeding The Poor
Jesus said, “I was hungry and you fed me.” With many Haitian’s dying of starvation each year, God has allowed us to help some of them. We have fed 2,435 meals this month with a dream of feeding many more.
Recently, Abraham and I went into City Soleil to take pictures of the homes where most of our kids lived. We took pictures of their homes, their former living conditions, and their lives before moving into our home. Most of you will be stunned by the situation; words simply can’t describe it.  We are working on a video that we will send you soon to show the extreme conditions which the children of this area live in everyday. We are not exaggerating by telling you these kids eat from the garbage, play in the garbage, and literally live in the garbage. With the help of the Lord and you, we will reach this community, especially since many of our children come from there.
The situation in this city is very extreme on all sides: poverty, little to no education, crime, gangs, kidnapping, ect. The United Nations in 2004 described it as, “The worlds most dangerous city”. It has since calmed down a lot. There are many thousands of people who live in City Soleil, but we have chosen a small area to focus on for ministry.
Our desire is to operate a food distribution center out of a Church in the heart of this desperate city. We have received funding to distribute approximately 800 meals per month which will cover 4 days of each month.  If you have a desire to get involved in feeding the poor of City Soliel, please let us know. We dedicate two days a week to take a group out for evangelism. In addition to our normal outreach, this month, we had a team of two men come in from the Tennessee. We did evangelism everyday and had a powerful time in the Lord. Many souls were saved, and thousands heard the Gospel.
The Lord has been working in our midst and within our hearts. While showing the Jesus film to over 500 people a few nights ago, the Lord began to deal with my heart about reaching Haiti. Of course our goal has been to reach as many Haitian people as possible, but I began to think about reaching a specific number.
Something the Lord has taught me over the last fews years is that I have no control over how many people respond to the Gospel, but I do have control over the number of people that hear the Gospel! With that in mind, we are not presenting you with a new vision but a new campaign: The REACH 100K campaign. We are setting a goal of reaching 100,000 Haitian people with the Jesus film. Notice, there is nothing about how many respond to the Gospel: this goal is about how many HEAR the gospel. Yes, we will give an invitation and clear presentation of the Gospel, but it is up to the Lord who receives and who doesn’t. Our job is to deliver the true Gospel!

The School of Ministry for Haitians
The first school is going great. The people are learning two days a week and applying what they learn each Saturday when they all go out to do evangelism.
God has given us an open door in a village called Dini. This is a remote area that has been controlled by voodoo for a long time. We have been working with DaySprings Ministry Church in this area doing evangelism. We recently had 74 people come to Jesus in this area. The pastor has asked us to start a Bible Training School out of his church. He currently has 5o people wanting to attend for 4 hours each Saturday. Our future plans are to kick this off in January, 2010! Please keep this in prayer.

Teams are Welcome
December 12-19, 2009 Our Christmas Trip will include many different areas of ministry: working with our kids, helping with our Christmas celebration, helping with our Sunday feeding program, and local village evangelism through showing the Jesus Film, Bible Story-telling, and preaching door-to-door.
January 9-16, 2010 This trip will be focused on evangelism in remote areas and the villages near our house through showing the Jesus Film, Bible Story-telling, and preaching the Gospel door-to-door. We are also planning to set up preaching in the prisons. We would like to have a Vacation Bible School for our children this week as well in our home.
Cost: The total cost of a trip flying in from Atlanta is approximately $800 – $900 per person. If you are interested in joining one of the trips or scheduling a trip of your own, please let us know ASAP by email at reachhaiti@gmail.com
Offering Internships
If you are interested in coming for longer than a one-week trip, we also offer one-month internships. The cost is $500 per month plus your airfare. We are able to facilitate many different fields of ministry for you to work in: Children’s Ministry, Evangelism, Remote Area Outreach, Medical, Leadership Training, Feeding Program, and many more!
Partnerships
God has given us a big vision for this nation, and we know it will never happen unless you partner with us. We need your monthly support today. We have people that partner with us as little as $15 per month to our larger donors as well. Every penny is being used to advance the Gospel here in Haiti and reach the abandoned, sick, and starving children of this nation.
I know many of you have thought about partnering with us, but for whatever reason, you have not done it. We are asking you to start your partnership today by clicking here. In just a couple of minutes, you will be sowing seed into good ground! If you can’t make a monthly commitment, you may make a one-time donation by clicking here. May the Lord bless you.

Ministry Update

Please feel free to forward this to anyone!

Mike and I moved to Haiti on August 17, 2009 to begin ReachHaiti Ministries. Since then, the Lord has grown the ministry and is allowing us to advance His Kingdom is more ways than we ever imagined! Our house is located in Carrefou Marasa off of Santo 25 in Croix de Bouquets.

Orphanage:

The first week we were in Haiti, we moved 15 children into our home. We had found out in June that these kids had lost the funding for their home and were being put into the streets. So, we rented a larger home and moved the kids in downstairs. Through a tragic accident our third week in Haiti, we lost one of our children, James, to a fall down an old well. The Lord used this time to teach us to completely rely on Him and have the faith to believe Him to provide one day at a time. He has never failed us. Since September, we have added five more children into our home. The majority of our children come from the slums and streets of City Soleil. They had never lived in a nice house, seen a toilet, used running water, or have nutritious food everyday. Several of them had minor illnesses like scabies, bacterial infections, skin conditions, anemia, and severe malnourishment. With the help of our sponsors, we were able to get all of our kids to the doctor for full physicals and blood-work. The doctor told us that a couple of them would have been dead soon if we hadn’t intervened. All of them but one were on medicine for 10 days. Now, they are all healthy and growing everyday! Our kids are also learning discipline in our home which many of them have never had. We have a daily chore list that the older kids rotate through two at a time. Our goal is not only to educate them them but to also give them a hope for a future. Our home is not full yet, and it’s our mission to take in children as God brings them to us. We never want to turn away a child who is truly in need. Jesus says that children are the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. Matthew 18: 5 says, “And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me.” We have proclaimed the power of God in our home and are determined to show every child the love of Jesus. His love is always enough. You can read more about the orphanage outreach by clicking here.

Church Plant:

We have birthed our first church which currently meets in our home still. Our first service was August 30, 2009 and we had 33 people in attendance. Since then, the church has grown and multiplied quickly! Last Sunday, October 11, 2009, we had over 100 people here! Mike has been teaching the stories of the Bible beginning with creation which has been very needed down here. Many Haitians, even those that don’t have a relationship with the Lord, can sing the hymns and recognize God’s power, but very few have ever heard the Word of God. Because of the voodoo being so involved in the Haitian culture, the people both adult and children understand the spirit realm and spiritual warfare. The problem is that they don’t understand the true power of God they have access to over the enemy! Their culture is full of fear and oppression which is why the Gospel is so needed down here. The church continues to grow each week, and we’re really excited about what God is doing in our community!

Evangelism:

The church growth has partially been due to evangelism around our home in our community. Through local evangelism, we have seen over 260 people repent of their sins and receive salvation in Jesus Christ since August 2009! We have ministered to several hundred people through evangelism and the Jesus Film. Through evangelism, Mike has been teaching through a story format beginning with creation and the Bible stories. Haitian culture is completely oral since 90% of Haitians can’t or don’t read. They don’t know the Word of God, and many people don’t have the opportunity to learn. By teaching the stories, people are very receptive to hearing the Gospel and are understanding the Word at a deeper level. Haitians learn differently than Americans. Their whole culture has been passed down orally and through stories. Voodoo is also passed down orally which is very ingrained in the culture here. Nothing is written though; it’s all verbal or through pictures. The Jesus Film has been another big tool for us here. The visualization of Jesus is very effective in portraying the Gospel. We are also building relationships with the people in our neighborhood and are understanding the culture more everyday. Paul said I have become like those I serve so that I may reach one.

ISOM Bible School:

Every Monday and Thursday night, we have Bible College in our home through the International School of Ministry or ISOM. ISOM is taught through videos of many different speakers and is used all over the world. We have been averaging between 10-14 students each week. Most of our students are young men who are hungry for the Word of God. Every week, Mike also takes the students with him to do local evangelism. Our goal is to disciple them and equip them to go preach the Gospel and plant churches.

Feeding Program:

We have partnered with the Burns Lake Community in Canada to start a feeding program on Sunday’s after church which has also largely contributed to our church growth. We started the program on September 20, 2009 and fed 29 people peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, mostly children. Since then, as the church has grown, so has the feeding program! Last Sunday, we fed all 100 people who came to our home for service rice and beans. Many of the people, especially the kids, that come to the church are very poor and go hungry a lot. We are blessed to have never experienced true hunger like they have. Feeding the poor and hungry is also part of doing God’s work. It’s great to be able to feed them physically and spiritually at the same time!

City Soleil Outreach:

After we had been in Haiti almost two months, we started learning more and more about where most of our children come from: City Soleil. We had only heard about City Soleil, but had never actually seen it firsthand other than a quick drive through. We sent Abraham into City Soleil with our video camera to capture what the city looks like. Being a dangerous place to go, it was not safe for Mike and I to go at first and take a camera. What Abraham brought back for us to see was beyond words. We were both stunned at the extreme conditions there: piles of garbage feet high, children sick and naked, families living in trash and starving, kids playing in the dump barefoot, and so much more that can’t be put into words. Mike went back the following week to see for himself where our kids grew up. Our kids are from a small community in City Soleil and were all neighbors before they moved into our house. We have been learning so much about the horrendous conditions our kids have known their whole lives: poverty, abuse, violence, hunger, loneliness, abandonment, and so much more. Sadly, many of them still have siblings living in these conditions in City Soleil. We are wanting to get involved and bring some of the children into our home as we can. Mike brought back Lynette that day whose brother, Sadrak, already lives with us. We are trying to find sponsors so we can continue to bring these children into our home.

Church Plant Update

Sunday Service

Sunday Service

Just a quick update. Today we had a powerful service in the upstairs of our home. We had over 100 people attend service and by the blessing of the Lord we were able to feed each person. Please keep this baby Church in your prays. We also had a new older man attend. This man came to the Lord on Saturday night. He lives in the voodoo temple of his village. Praise god for his salvation.

God Bless,

Mike and Andrea

The Kids of City Soleil

Walking in the slums (City Soleil) of the poorest nation on this side of the world!

Walking in the slums (City Soleil) of the poorest nation on this side of the world! The playground of City Soleil

Walking the streets of Haiti is never easy. However, the streets of City Soleil are beyond anything we had ever seen up until now. In 2004, the United Nations referred to City Soleil as “the most dangerous city in the world.” Although the crime has calmed down some since then, the filth and sickness is still rampant. Piles of garbage line the streets as high as 3 feet in some areas. Homes are constructed out of nothing but left over tin and cardboard, mostly pulled from the trash. Children run naked in the garbage, barefoot and sick. The playground for most kids is the community dump which also serves as the toilet. Hunger and starvation are very common in both adults and children. “Mud pies” are meals to some kids made of nothing but mud on the streets baked into a small cookie. Twelve of our eighteen children were born and raised in these horrific conditions before they came to live with us. Most of their homes had an average of 10-12 people living in these conditions in a one-room house, maybe 12 feet by 12 feet in dimension. With only a mother to care for them, they have also seen the crime and danger City Soleil is full of. Very few know their father because of abandonment or murder.

The playground in City Soleil where our children are from. These are their friends!

The situation is beyond anything we have ever seen or even heard of existing. But unfortunately, this is reality. This is not an exaggeration or something we have come up with: this is all truth. Now that we have lived with our children for two months, they have become like our own. They are our family. When we first saw the conditions they came from, it broke our hearts. To think of our innocent children being raised in this was just too much to handle. We knew we had to do something to help. It’s just not possible for us to take in every child in City Soleil, but we can still do something. With the addition of 4 new children in the last 10 days, we are asking you to partner with us to rescue these children. By sponsoring a child for $1 per day, we are able to provide food and housing for each child as well as medical care and daily needs. We are currently in need of 7 more partners for the children we currently have in our home. These kids need your help! By partnering with us, you are helping pull these children out of the streets and help us provide a home and a hope for their future. Will you sponsor a child today? The Legacy of Lillian “June” Stillwater Puckett
On September 19, 2009, Andrea’s grandmother, June Puckett, went home to meet the Lord peacefully. She was 86 years old and has been married to her husband, Taz Puckett, for 62 years. In honor of June’s life and love of children, the family has decided to set up a memorial fund in June’s memory to support the children of Haiti through her granddaughter’s ministry. Some of June’s fondest memories were working with children and leading a children’s choir at her church. Her name will be remembered through the abandoned and orphaned children in Haiti. If you would like to donate to June’s Memorial, please click here.
