We have been building on our property in the village of Gidon, located just outside Port Au Prince on the outskirts Croix des Bouquets since we acquired it back in May 2010. Gidon has about 5,000 people in the village and is situated at the base of the mountains. It is surrounded by farmland and is a very beautiful community! Our property is a little less than an acre with an adjacent school across the street. We will be repairing the school and running it in the future.

After much prayer, we have decided to build several small houses to form a children’s village rather than one large building to serve as the orphanage. This way, we can maintain the family and home environment which we have now by everyone living under one roof.

The small homes will operate individually just as a typical family would. Each home will house 8-10 kids and 1-2 dorm moms. Each home will do its own cooking, cleaning, etc. Each home will consist of a large bedroom, a bathroom with 2 showers, 2 sinks, and 2 toilets, a kitchen, a table for the family to eat together, and a large living room or play room. We will do large build-in lockers for each of the kids to have they personal space as well.

Our goal is to shift away from the term “Orphanage” and start using “Home.” We want to create a small village of children’s homes that will still house the needy and orphaned children of Haiti, but feel like a home to them!

As of July 2011, We are very excited to announce that the kids have just moved into their new homes! We have completed the cafeteria, the well, all the electrical wiring and plumbing, 4 children’s homes, and the bathhouse. The kids are SO happy in their new homes now! More updates to come soon!
