Matthew 25:35 (NIV)

“The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.”

Michael is a special, young boy. Six weeks ago, Michael was extremely anemic, malnourished, and very small for a four-year-old boy weighing only 28 pounds. He sat and stared idly for hours at a time, not playing or running as a young boy should. His mouth is full of black, rotting teeth due to his severe malnourishment. According to the doctor, Michael would not be alive today if we had not taken him in when we did. He was on the verge of death which is sadly the case with thousands of children in Haiti. Now, Michael is running and playing all the time. He doesn’t stop! He loves life and is full of joy! We want to thank all of our supporters for making this work possible. A special thanks to Michael’s sponsor, Randy Puckett, for his monthly support to help us feed Michael.

When Mike and I first started planning our move to Haiti, an orphanage was not in our initial plans. We had talked about doing that “one day,” but God had other plans for us. In June, we had heard that an orphanage we had been supporting was losing their funding for their building, and all the kids were being thrown out into the streets. We knew we needed to do something: these were young, innocent children who were unable to fend for themselves on the streets. So, we prayed and decided to rent a larger house when we came to Haiti so the kids could stay with us. We moved into our house in Carrefou Marasa on August 21, 2009. The kids moved in with us on August 24, 2009. We originally had 16 children living with us. Most of our kids are form City Soleil, the most dangerous city in the world. All they have known is poverty and life on the streets. They all needed the love of Jesus desperately.

The Bible says that children are a blessing and we agree. Although our house can have chaos with 16 children living downstairs, it’s also full of love! Our kids are thriving, both physically and spiritually. They have all been to the doctor and treated for various skins infections and other minor illnesses. We have had to teach them a lot about living in a big house, even little things like how to use an indoor toilet and a trash can. We know that God loves these children as much as anyone else. We are so honored to be used of the Lord in this special ministry. It’s not always easy, but the rewards to seeing a child’s life change is priceless! Our kids and our home is full of the love of Jesus which we know is always enough.

We have a sponsorship program going with our kids to help us provide food for them. For just $1 per day or $30 per month, you can help us provide nutritious food for one of our kids. If you would like to sponsor a child in our home, please click here.
